King Street Arch
2005
Galvanised mild steel
4800x2800x150mm
Commissioned by Melton Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council
Installed 25/9/2005 King Street, Melton Mowbray
The design was inspired by traditional signage and heraldry (including Melton’s own coat of arms), which I then coupled with Melton Mowbray's contemporary and historical agricultural identity. The figures are symbolic of the shops on the street itself, the trumpeter representing the music shops, and the female figure representing the beauty salons and fashion shops. The horse and bull come from the Borough coat of arms and the king refers to the name of the street, a titular guardian.
